Pet insurance has allowed me to make emergency medical decisions for my pets with little thought about the costs involved.
Veterinary costs are constantly rising like everything else.
Yet last year, when my cat Bonzo suddenly became dehydrated and diagnosed with early onset kidney failure, he was treated immediately. The last thing on my mind was the thousands of dollars in vet charges about to be incurred.
Today Bonzo continues to be happy and healthy because of pet insurance.
Pet emergencies can cost thousands of dollars.
Several years ago my sister’s dog ran out into traffic, fracturing several bones. It was a very traumatic experience for everyone involved. The kids were crying, the dog was crying, bystanders were crying.

Pet insurance was front and centre during my last visit to the vet.
As we were standing in a line, a woman came screaming into the lobby, carrying her bleeding and crushed dog in her arms. He had been hit by a car and was near death.
The dog was dying and she didn’t have pet insurance.
The woman was hysterical. The retriever had been in their family for 10 years and she was frantic about what would she tell the kids if she didn’t bring their best friend home.
The vets came running out and assessed the dog quickly on the spot. He needed emergency surgery, blood transfusions, x-rays and fluids. What did she want to do, they asked her.
The cost to save her dog’s life could be as high as $5000.

Many online insurance companies will give you discounted pet insurance if you have more than one pet to cover. Before you accept any agreement, you must do your homework and learn as much as you can about pet insurance products. Some companies require that pets must be of the same breed before they give a discount, for example.
It pays to look for bargains in pet insurance coverage. Many providers offer discounts of about ten percent, but a few may offer higher discounts depending on your circumstances. If you are searching for pet insurance coverage on the Internet, you can obtain dozens of quotes and then compare the coverages and rates of each plan in just a few minutes. There are many kinds of pet insurance available as well. Third-party liability coverage protects you if your pet destroys property, causes harm, or causes an accident. The fees associated with liability are often higher than paying the monthly premium for pet insurance.

Keeping a pet is a rewarding experience which many of us enjoy, but it can also be expensive. As well as all the routine costs such as food and grooming, you can also come up against unplanned expenses such as vetinary bills through sickness or accident. These bills can unfortunately be very high, so to ensure that their pets can get the treatment they need many people decide that taking out pet insurance is a sensible way of helping to cushion these costs. But what should you be looking for in a pet insurance policy?
The first thing to consider is what kind of pet you have. The cheapest kind of pet insurance is that for the most common pets - cats and dogs. Prices for these policies can be very reasonable indeed, amounting to only the cost of a few tins of pet food a month. If, however, you keep a more unusual kind of animal as a pet, then the price you pay may well be higher. Make sure that any policy you take out specifically includes your kind of pet, as many will exclude more ‘exotic’ kinds of animal.

No one has to tell you how important it is to have health insurance for you and your family. It is said that many families are one serious medical issue away from financial disaster. With the costs of doctors, hospitals, lab tests and medications, the fees can easily bankrupt a family.
The same principle applies to your pet. When you have a pet it becomes a full fledged member of the family. Your pet is with you during good times and bad times, often knowing instinctively when you are upset and trying in its own way to comfort you. They offer us protection from harm and listen to us with understanding compassion in their eyes. When the rest of the world seems to let you down, your pet is always there and it doesn’t care if you don’t look your best or are having a bad hair day. It accepts you with unconditional love and can make your troubles seem not as bad as they would were your pet not around to comfort you.

Most pet owners like to spoil their animals a little, whether by giving them tasty treats to eat in addition to the food they need to keep them in good health, or by providing them with expensive toys to keep boredom at bay. The amount of money spent on our pets collectively is incredible, even when you exclude essential costs such as veterinary fees and the like.
However much we might pamper our pets, most of us won’t go so far as many animal lovers in Japan, where aging pets can have personal fitness trainers, sessions at a spa, massage, aromatherapy and acupuncture, providing a regimen for healthy life that not many of us humans even benefit from!
Although pampering your pet is normally harmless, there are a couple of problems to look out for. The first is that recent studies show that the more pampered a pet is, the less intelligent it’s likely to be. Doted-on pets tend to lose their natural problem solving abilities and can’t cope with difficulties - in short, they become a bit spoilt. This is rarely a real problem except in the most advanced cases, where a pet can all but take over it’s owner’s life!

Unfortunately, in todays world it is not difficult for a pet dog to get injured. Dogs were not designed to live in an urban environment and the common trappings of city life can yield some unfortunate incidents. These incidents may result in a trip to the vets to have the dog properly taken care of. However, such a trip is not free and can run into an expensive bill. Of course, one could defer this expense by simply purchasing adequate dog insurance designed to provide a financial safety net no different that which is provided by human health insurance coverage.
There are those who might laugh at the mere mention of dog insurance designed to cover any costs associated with illnesses that the pooch may suffer from. It is true that the mention of dog insurance will yield a reaction of laughter from some people mainly because the concept of dog insurance is a relatively new concept. Since people generally associate medical insurance with humans, it may seem odd that insurance can be purchased for a pet as well. The problem exists is that people take that moment of smirking and use it to dismiss the serious possibility of a life threatening illness effecting a loyal pet and the need for an expensive life threatening operation being required to save the poor pets life.

Wanting to make sure we take care of our pets is nothing new. But for some people, the idea of pet insurance is unexplored territory. If you have been toying with the idea of getting quotes for pet insurance, there are several factors to take into consideration. Here are a few tips to help you pick the pet insurance policy that is right for you and your animal.
Before you begin to evaluated any pet insurance policy, sit down and compile your wish list of coverage you hope to find available. This may include such things as a prescription co-payment plan, low deductibles for surgery and other major medical matters, some price breaks on annual checkups, teeth cleanings, de clawing, or other health measures you normally take to ensure your pet’s sound condition. Keep in mind you may not find a pet insurance policy that will cover everything on your wish list, so prioritize your items. This will help ensure you do get a policy that addresses the healthcare needs you consider most important.
Perhaps one of the most crucial things to consider when evaluating getting quotes for pet insurance is whether or not your current veterinarian accepts a give policy. This can easily be determined, by asking the office manager at the vet’s office. They will be happy to give you the names of various insurance providers they work with. By finding out who your current vet works with, you already have a small degree of endorsement of those companies. Just like doctors, veterinarians do not like to work with insurance companies that make filing claims difficult, or who are slow to pay.

Cats are a very individual minded animal. In other words, cats do for cats and are not mentally hardwired to follow a leader in the same manner that a dog will. That is why a cat will probably want to forgo the need to acquire proper cat insurance. Now, while cats are notoriously single-minded, human beings should know better. Human owners who love their cats should go the extra length and acquire the proper pet health insurance for cat so as to provide a financial blanket to cover a major procedure in case a pet cat requires such help.
Some may not see the need for cat insurance if the cat is an indoors cat. After all, all the major problems that a pet cat could face derive from an unfortunate incident that might occur outside the safety of the cat’s (well, your) home. Unfortunately, common things such as aging can result in medical and dental problems that can prove virtually catastrophic. And remember, such events can occur without any trauma presented to the animal or in conjunction with any out or normal circumstance.

Since pet health is a major concern for all pet owners, we have explored other areas of pet health and are sharing this information in order to help you provide the very best care for pet. We hope you find this article to be both useful and helpful.
Recent revelations in scientific research have provided pet owners with the means to now save their beloved family pets from injuries and diseases that would have caused the pet to be euthanized in the not so distant past. The sad news is that when the unthinkable happens and a pet life hangs in the balance most pet owners find that they are unable to afford the often staggering price of the treatments which can range from $3000-$10000 and some cases even more, and are forced to euthanize their pets anyway. It is in these instances those pet owners wish they had the foresight to purchase a pet health insurance policy.
